Baralaccha La is the second pass on the MLH. Situated at an altitude of 4900 metres above sea
level, this is the widest pass I have ever seen. The typical multicoloured triangle shaped flags with holy verses inscribed on
it are tied there in plenty, giving a colourful picture. Every driver who passes this pass, lays down a few stones on top of each
other and then prays for a safe journey. Some also inscribe their vehicle number.
The pass is really broad and if you see
the side of the pass which faces in direction of Spiti, it is so wide and the peaks are visible as far as eyes can see. This pass
receives the maximum snowfall of all the passes and is the first one to close in late october. The scenic view is breathtaking
here. I have no words to describe it. You must see it for yourself. There is one popular trek starting from Kunzam La to Chandra
Tal to Suraj Tal to Baralaccha La. Though I haven't been on that trek, I believe, it must be a scenic trek.
