Sarchu is the last Himachal village before entering the region of Ladakh. After Baralachha
La, the scene changes within 30 km or so. The densely clad peaks are no longer seen, and only slightly snow clad peaks may be
seen. The terrain now becomes rocky and there is a lot of sand as well, but not like the desert. Streams also disappear, and
only a few streams may be seen, here and there.
Sarchu is a temporary village, as it is only for two to three months
that tents come up here to cater to the tourists on MLH. There is enough plain land around, if you want to set up your own
tent. But mind you, strong winds blow here, so be prepared. Sarchu is the commonest place for an overnight halt on MLH as it
comes almost midway in the 484 km route.
