The geography around Pang marks the beginning of the desert landscape. Pang is 19 km from Lachlung La (74km from Sarchu). It is a completely barren, brown and a sandy place with a small stream. The blue white landscape is completely replaced by brown white. Slight snow on distant peaks may still be seen. Strong winds are a very common feature, and one should keep this in mind if plans for camping arise. There are commercial tents set up, with 4 to 8 beds in each, and you may want to consider this ,if not wanting to set up a tent. Pang is another important halting place, en route. One can directly reach Pang from Manali on same day, if you leave Manali before sunrise, and you can camp here instead of Sarchu. But many people feel it is not good to halt at Pang, as because of dry sandy climate, many suffer from throat problems and others. Depends.
